Pull up a seat, let’s take you through our age ratings…

To help you make good choices about what’s appropriate for yourself or your family to watch, Neon rates all of its content in line with the NZ Media Council’s VOD (Video On Demand) classifications code.

The classifications are:

G
Approved for General viewing - Might not be intended for child viewers but should not contain material likely to alarm or distress them.
PG
Parental Guidance recommended for young viewers - May be suitable for children but parents and caregivers are expected to monitor their child’s viewing
M
Suitable for Mature audiences 16 years and over - Contains adult themes and is directed primarily at mature audiences.
16
People under 16 years should not view - Contains material unsuitable for younger viewers, such as sexual activity, potentially offensive language, realistic violence, sexual violence, or horrific encounters.
18
People under 18 years should not view - Contains themes which may be challenging or offensive even to some adult viewers.

Some of our content may also have a secondary classification which gives you a bit more information about what's in the content:

Complaints and feedback

Seen something you feel is inappropriately classified? To make a complaint or submit feedback, get in touch with our Customer Care team. You can do that via chat, or email us on help@neontv.co.nz. We'll take a look and get back to you.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you can refer the matter to the NZ Media Council. This needs to be in writing, within 10 working days of receiving our response. You can lodge your complaint online here – make sure to click on VOD complaint.

The NZ Media Council’s chairperson will review your complaint and if they feel there is a potential breach of the VOD Classifications Code, the Media Council's Classifications Committee will seek a response from Neon within 10 working days. If a complaint is upheld, the committee will require Neon to reclassify its content. At any time, you can withdraw your complaint and Neon can withdraw or reclassify our content.
